Thanksgiving Weekend Recap

Northwest Hockey Conference Red Division teams played against some of the top competition in the state in tournaments over the Thanksgiving holiday weekend.

In the Cold Turkey Tournament, hosted by Northview at Tam-O-Shanter, St. John’s lost by a goal in the varsity championship game to Olentangy Liberty (after tying them earlier in the tournament). St. Francis & Northview went 2-2 and Findlay’s only losses came to Gilmour. In the JV tournament, St. Francis dominated, winning all 4 games by at least 3 goals. More details on the Cold Turkey page, including downloads of scoresheets.

Anthony Wayne played in the top division of the Chiller Thanksgiving Classic in the Columbus area, finishing 3rd out of 8 teams. The Generals went 3-1, losing only to eventual champ Upper Arlington. By chance, both AW varsity & JV were matched up against Dublin Jerome on Sunday morning, and they completed the sweep.

Perrysburg dominated 3 SWOHSHL teams in the Blue division of the George DiPaolo tourney in Oxford and defeated the Athens Bobcats club team for the crown.

As is common in tournaments, high school teams often play USA Hockey teams. Across all 3 tournaments, NHC Red teams played the most games against the Ohio Scholastic Hockey League and went 4-1-1.

Clay and Whitmer each went 0-3 in the Bruce Anderson Tournament in Parma.

Upcoming weekend

Findlay and Northview, each already with a league victory, will try to extend their early lead in the Red Division when they play their 2nd and 3rd league games this weekend. St. John’s and Bowling Green will play their first conference matches of the season. St. Francis, Anthony Wayne, and Perrysburg travel for more non-conference games.

The White Division features a double-header of league games at the Ice House on Saturday. Fremont, Southview, and Whitmer will be playing their first conference contests.

The league schedule kicks off in full December 13th – 15th with 17 games scheduled.
